建築物だけを計画するのではなく、つなげる路をデザインし町をつくる
なないろこまちは、なないろレディースクリニックという産婦人科クリニックを核にした、小さな町のような建築である。２００７年になないろレディースクリニックの設計した時は、初めてつくばに開業する医師とどのように、求心力を持つような医院をつくるかを一緒に思案したが、１０年経ち、地域の人々にも広く認知され、地域で求心力持てるようになった次のクリニック構想は、どのように地域や人々と多世代にわたりつながっていくかという遠心力を持つようなクリニックであった。それはお産をするまでという特定の期間だけのクリニックと患者の関係だけではなく、子を産み育てるというロングスパンでの関係を想定した医院づくりとなった。
具体的には建築物は、赤ちゃんを産む前に診察する「外来棟」、赤ちゃんを産み、産後に静養する「入院棟」と、その赤ちゃんや育児によってつながることのできる「コミュニティ棟」、小児科や美容皮膚科、産後院などのある「アネックス棟」の集合体である。その建築物を、「こみち」というレンガ色のアプローチが各建築物を接合する。こみちと様々な機能の建築物の集まりから成る「なないろこまち」は、子どものための町でもあり、子どもに関わるコミュニティの町でもある。この計画は、医師と話し合いを進めながら、都心ではできない医療を核にしたコミュニティ形成できるような空間形成を行った。それぞれの建築物の医療としての機能性を損なわずに、お互いの関係が密にならずに緩く「こみち」によってつながることで、単に別の地点への移動するための空間に留まらず、人と人の関係がうまれるような新たなアクティビティが生まれるようにデザインした。
少子化人口減少、パンデミックなど現実の世界では様々な問題が生じているが、その地域の医療と人の関係の特色をリアルな空間で考え、お産をすることや、人と人が助け合って問題に対処していけるようなコミュニティ形成のアシストを、ほんの少しでもこの小さな町のような「なないろこまち」が後押しできれば幸いである。

"Not only designing buildings, but also designing roads that connect to them, creating a townscape"
NANAIRO COMACHI is a small town-like architecture centered on the obstetrics and gynecology clinic called NANAIRO Ladies Clinic. When the Ladies Clinic was designed in 2007, the task was to create a clinic that serves as a centripetal force in collaboration with the doctor starting up in Tsukuba. After ten years, the clinic is widely recognized by the local people. The concept of the new clinic facility, now serving as a centrifugal force in the area, was to maintain the connection with the community and create a centrifugal force with people in diverse generations. The clinic was designed not only for the temporary patient-clinic relationship until giving birth, but for a long-span relationship extended from giving birth to raising the child.
Specifically, the complex facility has an "outpatient building" for prenatal check-ups, an "inpatient building" for postpartum rest and recovery, a "community building" connecting new moms and babies through child-rearing, and the "annex building" with pediatrics, cosmetic dermatology, and a postpartum clinic. The brick-colored approach called "Komichi" joins the buildings. NANAIRO COMACHI is a town made for children and the community related to children, consisting of a group of buildings with various functions connected by the “komichi”. Through discussions with the doctors, a layout plan for a community centering on medical care was formed, one that cannot be realized in a downtown city environment. The “komichi” is not a mere path from one point to reach another, but one that establishes a loose connection between each building without impairing the functionality as a medical facility while introducing new activities to bring forth new encounters.
 In a world facing various problems such as the declining birthrate, depopulation, and global pandemics, it is our hope that the small town-like NANAIRO KOMACHI will assist in building a strong local community to support each other in childbirth and other issues in a physical environment involving local people and hospitals.
